Interview_With_A_Vampire_Writing_Response_

Situation and character of the vampire are used to outline the importance of relationships in “Interview With A Vampire” in many ways. When we look at Louis, he lived in agony as a vampire as he had to separate from his family who considered him dead from the fire in their house. He loved them so much he had to let them go as he could not let them know he was a vampire. Louis was not accustomed to being a vampire and did not want to get accustomed to the vampire lifestyle. He was not very comfortable with the idea of being a vampire and did not live amongst the others of his kind well. Louis’s human nature allowed him to feed off of animals which was seen as a weakness to the other vampires but Louis did not care as he still had a heart. This allowed him to form a very strong bond with Claudia. The relationship between Claudia, Louis and Lestat is that of a strong one. Lestat converts her when she is only five years old and as her mind matures into that of a smart young woman her physical body never changes. She comes to self discontent with this idea and cannot accept it as she grows more eand more intelligent. She wants to be treated as an adult but she is trapped in a child’s body. Lestat refuses to tell her much information about the lives that they must live as vampires, like where do we comes from, when/how do we die? Claudia is furious at Lestat and plots his death. This kind of relationship is a special one because yes, Claudia hates both of her fathers, but she doesn’t know anything else other than the confusion that is her vampire life. This infuriates her and causes her to do these awful acts as the story progresses. Louis and Claudia never actually act romantic or sexual to each other as they are father and daughter. But they almost act like they are more than father and daughter and  never act on it. Lestat treats her like a child while Louis and Cluadia tread the fine line of love and hate. He cares for her and protects her from Lestat. These chaotic and romanticized relationships form the bonds of the main characters in this story and reveal the heart ache that each of them feel in this story.
