Idiocracy - April 29th

The setting of Idiocracy takes places in the future when Earth is trashed by humans beyond belief by our overuse of resources. People live in plastic huts and there are no "nice" areas of the world any longer. The part that is laughable but also the worst is that there is no drinkable water only electrolyte water or Gatorade. Commonly known as "what plants crave" and even the plants drink Gatorade. This idea that we humans have created something "superior" to water is common in futuristic storylines. The figures in charge brainwash the world to believe that this actually is the best liquid you could possibly consume.

The Novel of Spiritual Education- Night Circus

In the novel Night Circus, We see many different moral and spiritual experiences unfold in the same setting all throughout the novel. While Prospero The Enchanter and Alexander are arch rivals and deal with competing with each other throughout the whole novel they selfishly put their own egos and wants before the feelings of their young students. The circus could be described as enchanted as it "arrives without warning" and follows an odd color scheme of white, black and silver. This book is interesting as it is told on a non-linear third-person perspective. It also incorporates a second-person narration which allows the reader to be guided through the magical events happening in the circus. Either Marco or Ciela has to deal with trying to save the circus as they also deal with the trials of falling in love with one another. The magical view of this book takes the reader through exciting events while learning about the true wants and needs of the focal characters.

Cyberpunk & Steampunk

What is interesting about the effects of this particular reality in "The Anubis Gates" is that he does not expect to be jumped by the gypsies that also desire the key to time travel. This sets worry for the reader and intrigues us even more as it is beyond our grasp in our small reality because we cannot even fathom an issue like this in our normal lives. This reality has to do with Doyle finding himself kidnapped and unable to return back to a certain moment in time. I particularly enjoy reading time travel books because they are quite stressful and one minuscule move could have a life-changing effect. This is very different than the other books that we normally read that move on an A to B timeline and we never jump back and forth as we do in this novel.

“A Wild Sheep Chase” by Haruki Murakami

After reading “A wild sheep chase” by Haruki Murakami, I was left with a sad understanding of his novel. Something that I greatly appreciate about his writing style in this particular piece is the fact that he only gives you enough information about the characters to understand their place in the novel. Many authors chose to exaggerate and detail their writings to keep the reader engaged with a mental picture. This was such an interesting read because instead of mental imagery and personal connection with the characters, we are fully immersed into the scene as if we are there. We understand the narrator motives and desires but we never get close to him or the others in the piece.   We also never know the main characters first name which is extremely bold.   I believe that this is a directly related to the different cultural aspects of the author, Haruki Murakami compared to what we may be use to in English literature and western horror or gothic.
